City prepares for New Year party Thousands see in 2008 at concert

More than 5,500 people are expected to attend an open air New Year's Eve concert in Belfast later. Thousands of people have been braving the elements at an open-air New Year's Eve concert in Belfast city centre.
Ocean Colour Scene are topping the bill for a night to remember at the city's Custom House Square. Organisers expected more than 5,500 people to pack into Custom House Square for the Rock Around the Clock event.
The folk rock band with a long list of hits will be entertaining the crowd and ringing in the New Year in a Rock Around the Clock concert that is free. The bill is being topped by Ocean Colour Scene, a band who had a string of hits in the 1990s and still enjoy a cult following.
Top local acts to feature include David Holmes, Foy Vance, Bap Kennedy and Tin Pot Operation. Local acts on stage include top DJ David Holmes, Foy Vance, Bap Kennedy and Tin Pot Operation.
DJ Holmes is famous for his contribution to the Oceans 11 soundtracks. All tickets have already been distributed to people eager to ring in 2008 in the open air.

Vance is firmly established on the international stage with his unique sound.
Gates will open at 1900 GMT and close at 0030 GMT. All the tickets for the event have been distributed.
A special Metro bus service will operate on the evening.
Belfast City Council spokeswoman Nikki Devlin said: "Ideally, we would like everybody who has a ticket to be here by 8.30.
"If after that time you have not been lucky enough to get a ticket, we may be able to let you in, but it won't be until after that time."
