British shoppers can enjoy online Black Friday deals from the iconic New York  department store Macy’s, which is offering a flat-fee £7 shipping to the UK on purchases over £65 until the 18 December.

The promo code Gobble gives up to 20 per cent extra off purchases, but remember UK value added tax and customs duties are payable – though there’s a simple option to see what you owe and pay on the checkout rather than when postman arrives.

Black Friday deals include Charter Club cashmere sweaters cut from £108.19 to £54.47 (which with extra discount and duties included comes to £55.86), a diamond eternity ring down from £778.31 to £232.72 (£279.11 including taxes) or 60 per cent off Martha Stewart bedlinen.

Note that not all goods can be shipped to UK.

Black Friday was imported to the UK by Amazon in 2010 but has grown in size and relevance as more retailers started offering heavy discounts.

Last year, Walmart-owned Asda launched its own deals and was swamped with shoppers fighting over discounted televisions. Amazon recorded more than four million sales — a record day in the UK — last Black Friday, while John Lewis has predicted this will be one of its busiest days and will be opening its doors earlier than usual at 8am.
