It added that on the night of his death, Breck told his father he was going to his friend's house for a sleepover a couple of streets away, saying it "wasn't a huge concern for his parents".
BBC reporter Katharine Carpenter said before the jury came in, Daynes' defence team asked for the murder charge to be put to him again.
She said the guilty plea took Breck's parents, Barry Bednar and Lorin LaFave, by surprise.
In a statement released by the family, Breck was described as "kind, intelligent" and "extremely gifted".
Daynes is due to be sentenced on 12 January.
