Police launch city murder inquiry

Police have launched a murder investigation after a 29-year-old man died following an attack in Glasgow.

The man was found lying in the city's Riccarton Street in the Govanhill area at about 0425 GMT on Saturday.

He was taken to Glasgow Victoria Infirmary where he was later pronounced dead.

A post mortem will be carried out but Strathclyde Police are treating his death as murder. A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.

Det Insp William Coyle from Cathcart CID, said inquiries were at an early stage.

He added: "I would like to speak to anyone who may have been in the area of Riccarton Street at the junction of Hickman Street in the early hours of this morning.

"They may have witnessed the incident or may have seen the suspect running off afterwards."
