Version 0 of 1.

Zimbabwe's president has sworn in a three-man tribunal to investigate misconduct charges against suspended Attorney General Sobusa Gula-Ndebele.

It will recommend whether or not he should remain in office, AFP news agency quotes state radio as saying.

He was suspended recently after being accused of offering to help fugitive ex-banker James Mushore in September.

But Mr Mushore, who fled from currency offences three years ago, was arrested in October after his return.

After Mr Gula-Ndebele's suspension by President Robert Mugabe earlier this month, local media claimed the charges against the law chief were politically driven.

The attorney general is accused of telling Mr Mushore he would not be charged over allegedly siphoning off foreign currency if he returned to Zimbabwe from the UK.

Mr Gula-Ndebele met the banker in a restaurant in Zimbabwe in September without informing the authorities that Mr Mushore was back in the country, it is alleged.

The financier, who had been on the police's wanted list since 2004, was reportedly arrested in Harare in October and charged with violating currency regulations at a bank in the city.
