Man remanded over baby's murder

A man has been remanded in custody after appearing in court charged with the murder of a 16-month-old girl in South Yorkshire.

The baby died in hospital after suffering a fractured spine on Sunday.

James Frederick Howson, 24, of Nelson Road, Edlington, has been charged with murder, causing the death of a child and child cruelty.

Tina Hunt, 25, of the same address, also appeared in court charged with allowing the death of a child.

Both were remanded in custody by Doncaster magistrates until a further hearing at a date to be set.

Police have not named the child or confirmed her relationship to Mr Howson and Miss Hunt.
