Man dies after motorway collision

A pedestrian has died in hospital after being hit by a vehicle on the hard shoulder of the M23 motorway.

The man, who was believed to be in his 50s, died at East Surrey Hospital in Redhill, Surrey, following the incident on Monday afternoon.

Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance attended the scene to provide support.

The southbound carriageway of the M23 at Redhill was closed for some time. Motorists had been advised to avoid the area if possible.
