BAE Systems has agreed to buy the US military support services provider MTC Technologies for $448m (£226m).

The UK defence firm will buy all of the Dayton, Ohio-based company's shares for $367m and take on $81m of debt.

BAE Systems has been on the acquisition trail in the US as part of its attempts to win more military contracts from the US government.

In May it agreed to buy the military vehicle and body armour manufacturer Armor Holdings for £4.5bn.

"MTC Technologies is an excellent addition to BAE Systems," said BAE chief executive Walt Havenstein.

"This acquisition helps us to become an even more effective prime contractor and provider of technical solutions and services."
