Health board lost patient records

NHS Grampian has admitted losing the personal data of patients on a number of occasions in recent years.

The health board said it had lost patient records eight times in the last five years.

An NHS Grampian spokesman told BBC Scotland: "We treat all such incidents very seriously, and have not been complacent in dealing with them."

Details of the incidents emerged as nine English NHS trusts admitted losing patient details.

The NHS Grampian spokesman added: "Each incident is investigated fully and appropriate action taken to ensure similar incidents do not happen again."

MSP Christine Grahame, convener of the Scottish Parliament's health committee, has described the incidents as "alarming".
