A removal company has been attempting to contact hundreds of families whose personal belongings have been lost in a large fire at a storage depot.

The fire at the Clark and Rose warehouse in Portlethen, Aberdeen, destroyed a building being used to store many personal items.

Manager Stephen Levitt said they were making "strenuous efforts" to contact all those affected.

An investigation is now under way into how the fire started on Saturday.

Grampian Fire and Rescue Service said eight appliances and three support vehicles went to the scene after it was reported at 1140 GMT.

The fire was brought under control by 1430 GMT. No one is believed to have been hurt.

Mr Levitt added: "This is a very close-knit family business and naturally we are all shell-shocked by what has occurred.

"Our thoughts are very much with our customers right now and while it is still too early to ascertain the extent of the damage, or indeed the cause of the fire, it is vital that we try to communicate with them and keep them updated at what is a hugely stressful time."

Clark and Rose offers storage facilities as well as removal services both in the UK and abroad, with a total of more than half a million cubic feet of space between its depots in Portlethen, Stirling and London.
