The MP for the area, Sinn Fein's Conor Murphy, said it was a vicious attack.
"We need to ensure that the perpetrator is taken off the streets because he is clearly a danger to women," he said.
"Anyone with any information about this attack should not hesitate in bringing it forward to the police."
