The family of a six-year-old boy who died after being injured in a car accident have donated his organs.

Jerome Mone, from Ballygassoon Road in Armagh, was critically injured in the crash on the Red Lion Road in Loughgall on Thursday. He died on Saturday.

In a statement, his family said he died "leaving the gift of hope and life" by donating organs to other sick children.

"At this time of such sadness this gift of hope is no doubt the ultimate Christmas gift," said his family.

His mother, Angela, described her little boy as a "sometimes timid but always loving and giving child."

"Although Jerome's life was short, with his family he crammed it full of adventure and fun, giving those close to him lasting memories to ease the unfathomable pain that his departing brings," said the family.

"In his too-short life, Jermone brought an abundance of laughter and joy to all who knew him."

Jerome is also survived by his father Sean, and older brothers and sisters Eugene, Stephen, Celina and Edel.
