Ukraine: President Orders Forces Bolstered in the Separatist East
Version 0 of 1. President Petro O. Poroshenko has ordered the military to send reinforcements to Ukraine’s east. The order came in response to elections held over the weekend in rebel-controlled areas, which Ukraine, the European Union and the United States say violated a peace agreement, and also after an increase in rebel military activity in recent days. Mr. Poroshenko, speaking during a meeting of his national security council, also asked Parliament to repeal a law granting special status to the separatist regions and said controls at checkpoints into and out of those areas would be stiffened. |
