Mr Jones is a former player of Johnstown Youth FC.
The club's team manager Llion Drake paid tribute to "a brilliant personality".
He said: "Matty was a local Johnstown lad, a great footballer.
"He was a brilliant personality to have have in the changing room and always played the game with a smile on his face.

"He has many friends at Johnstown Youth FC and will be sorely missed by everyone.
"The village of Johnstown has lost one of its biggest characters."
