JERUSALEM — Malala Yousafzai, the 17-year-old Pakistani girl awarded the Nobel Peace Prize this year, has donated $50,000 from a separate prize to rebuild a United Nations school in the Gaza Strip damaged during this summer’s war between Israel and Hamas, the world body said this week.

The United Nations agency that assists Palestinian refugees said on Wednesday that Ms. Yousafzai was donating all proceeds of the $50,000 World’s Children’s Prize, which she collected in Stockholm on Wednesday.

The agency quoted her as saying that Palestinian children deserve a quality education, and that “without education, there will never be peace.”

Dozens of the United Nations-run schools in Gaza were damaged or destroyed during the 50-day war. Israel says it fired near schools because it was responding to attacks by Hamas, the Islamic militant group, from those areas.

Ms. Yousafzai won this year’s Nobel Peace Prize for promoting girls’ rights in Pakistan. She was shot in the head by a Taliban gunman two years ago, and has since lived in England, where she was taken for treatment.
