Marvel studios have announced details of their next tranche of superhero movies.

At an event for press and fans at El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles, Chadwick Boseman was unveiled as Marvel’s first black standalone lead actor. He will star in the Black Panther, released on in November 2017.

Boseman, who has previously played James Brown in Get on Up, will play T’Challa, the head of the fictional African nation of Wakanda, one of the Avengers.

Marvel president Kevin Feige revealed that The Avengers 3 will be broken up into two separate films called Avengers: Infinity War. The first will be released on 4 May 2018; the second a year later.

Feige was joined onstage by Boseman, Chris Evans, who plays Captain America, and Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man.

Feige remained tight-lipped about the news about Benedict Cumberbatch, in talks to take the role of Doctor Strange, saying “if it was confirmed, we would have announced it today.”
