(about 7 hours later)
Emergency crews are continuing to tackle a fire which spread rapidly through a large building near the M74 in Glasgow on Monday night. Fire crews are continuing operations at a warehouse in Glasgow that was badly damaged in a major blaze.
Dozens of firefighters were called to the blaze, which broke out shortly before 17:00 at Jessie Street, off Polmadie Road. Up to 50 firefighters worked through the night at the building, on Jessie Street, off Polmadie Road, after being called shortly before 17:00 on Monday.
Crews managed to prevent the flames spreading to adjacent properties. Local people were advised to keep windows and doors closed amid concerns about asbestos in the building.
But operations continued through the night and about 15 firefighters are still at the scene. Fire crews are continuing "dampening down" operations but road closures in the area have been lifted.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) asked the members of the public near the incident to keep windows and doors closed as the building material involved in the fire may contain asbestos. A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said: "There are currently three appliances at the scene and firefighters are likely to remain in attendance for some time.
Tests were being carried out to confirm if asbestos is present. "SFRS is monitoring wind direction to keep track of smoke travel."
A number of local road closures remain in place, with diversions being signposted. Police and ambulance crews were also called to the scene on Monday night but there were no reports of casualties and no-one was thought to have been in the building at the time.
