York Minster attack man sought after breaking release terms

A man who punched the Archbishop of York's chauffeur at the city's Minster is being hunted by police after breaching conditions of his release.

Scott Apps, 43, was found guilty of common assault and actual bodily harm in December at Leeds Crown Court.

He was jailed for 15 months but released in April.

But police want to return him to prison for breaching the terms of his licence and failing to attend York Magistrates' Court on a charge of theft.

Apps punched steward Sean Atkinson in the face during the general synod meeting at York Minster in July 2013.

The defendant then struck driver David Smith when he tried to intervene, breaking his nose.

Apps has connections to the Hackney area of London and detectives believe he may be there.
