The clocks might have only gone back an hour, but in some places in the UK this morning it feels as if they have gone back a whole month.

Londoners woke up to blazing sunshine this morning, as the capital looks to be at the receiving end of temperatures approaching 20C all week, with today and tomorrow promising temperatures of 18 degrees.

Although expected to dip slightly mid-week, with rain and falling temperatures predicted, the south-east will enjoy a brief Indian summer this week. Most of the eastern part of Britain, right up to Newcastle, can also expect to revel in the unexpectedly warm and sunny weather.

Not everyone will be enjoying the weather. Unfortunately Wales, much of Devon and Cornwall and all of Scotland will face colder temperatures, wind and rain as a wet front moves towards Scotland.

BBC weather reports that a ‘slow moving front’ is expected to bring periods of heavy rainfall to north-western parts of Scotland – with the Environment Agency issuing 17 flood warnings for Scotland ahead of the arrival of the wetter weather.

Last night much of Scotland was battered by strong winds, with some weather centres predicting gusts of up to 70mph as the winds continue.
