At least 25 firefighters from Llanelli, Tumble and Kidwelly were involved in trying to put the fire out. Residents in the two adjoining houses had to find alternativeaccommodation for the night.
Local councillor John Jenkins said he had spoken with a police officer at the scene who had said it was believed something like a gas cylinder had exploded. "I think he wanted to stop rumours that there was a gas leak," said Mr Jenkins.
"Obviously the whole area would have been evacuated if that had been the case."
