Version 0 of 1.

A man who admitted murdering his wife in Lancashire has been jailed for 14 years.

Mark Dyson, 55, pleaded guilty at Liverpool Crown Court to killing his wife Carole at their home in Harrison Road, Adlington on 29 April.

Mrs Dyson, 53, was found at the house by police following a report of concerns for her safety. Her husband was arrested shortly afterwards.

A post-mortem examination found she was killed by asphyxiation.

Her death was described in court as a "cruel and merciless strangulation", police said.

Det Insp John Roy said: "I welcome the fact that Mark Dyson has admitted the murder of his wife, which has at least spared the family the pain of a trial.

"This is a tragic case and our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Carole Dyson."
