(1 minute later)
A Somerset dog-walker in his eighties A Somerset dog-walker in his eighties has died from his injuries after he was struck by a vehicle which failed to stop.
The man was found lying in Cole Road, Bruton, with head injuries at about 20:35 BST on Tuesday. He was treated at the scene, but later died.
Police said the vehicle involved would have been substantially damaged and would have a smashed windscreen.
They appealed for information about two separate vehicles seen in the area.
'Stripe on roof'
Det Ch Insp Phil Jones said: "There are a couple of vehicles that are of interest to us.
"One is a light-coloured three-door hatchback which potentially has a large stripe on the roof that was seen around 8.35pm yesterday evening.
"A call has [also] been received by us detailing a dark-coloured Range Rover-type vehicle on a '61 plate that again was driving through Cole Road at speed at around the relevant time.
"We are interested to locate both the drivers of those vehicles in order to establish whether they were involved or have got some important information for us."
A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said people would "be aware" of damage caused to the vehicle involved.
He said it was believed the vehicle involved was travelling from Yeovil, through Bruton, in the direction of Frome or Evercreech.
The man had been walking to the local shop with his two dogs when he was struck. The dogs were not harmed.
The road was closed until 04:30 to allow for a detailed examination of the scene.
