At least 12 people have been killed and many more are missing in blizzards in the Himalayas in Nepal, officials say. Severe snow in the Himalayas in central Nepal is reported to have killed at least 21 people, 10 of them foreigners.
Trekkers were trapped in heavy snowfall as they returned from the Thorung La mountain pass on the Annapurna Circuit, in Mustang district. The highest number of deaths - two Israelis, two Poles and eight Nepalese - happened when a blizzard hit a point on the Annapurna Circuit.
Nepalese, Polish and Israeli citizens are reported to be among the dead. Nearly 40 others were rescued. Scores of trekkers remain out of contact while returning from an Annapurna Circuit pass.
