Two men jailed for life for murdering Bradford Pc Sharon Beshenivsky have failed to win a cut in their 35-year minimum sentences. The Court of Appeal in London rejected argument on behalf of Muzzaker Shah, 26, and Yusuf Jamma, 21, that the terms were "manifestly excessive". Pc Beshenivsky was shot dead during a robbery at a travel agency in 2005. Shah, from Kenton, north west London, and Jamma, of Small Heath, Birmingham, were jailed in December 2006. They were also convicted of robbery and a series of firearms offences. 'Aggravating features' An application by Jamma for leave to appeal against his conviction was also dismissed at the Court of Appeal. Lord Justice Latham, sitting with Mr Justice Cooke and Mr Justice Cranston, said the trial judge at Newcastle Crown Court could not be criticised for the course he took in a case with "substantial aggravating features". Pc Beshenivsky, 38, was shot and killed as she arrived at the scene in Bradford city centre on 18 November 2005, the day of her youngest daughter's fourth birthday. Her colleague Pc Teresa Milburn was also shot as the robbers escaped with little more than £5,000, but she survived. |
