Blue Peter presenter Gethin Jones has been voted off reality show Strictly Come Dancing, leaving Alesha Dixon and Matt Di Angelo to fight for the title.

The 29-year-old Welshman was favourite to win the competition after improving dramatically over the last few weeks.

But he was forced into a dance-off with EastEnders star Di Angelo after the public vote put him in the bottom two.

Only one judge, Arlene Philips, thought Jones's moves were good enough to progress to the final on 22 December.

The other three panellists voted for Di Angelo, who will now compete with R&B star Dixon for the title of Strictly Come Dancing champion.

"I've had an incredible adventure and now I have some great dance moves," said Jones after the judges made their decision.

"My friends never expected me to get past week two."

'Prince of Darkness'

Alesha Dixon and Matthew Cutler are favourites to winJones had been bottom of the judges' scorecard after Saturday's live show, in which he performed two numbers with professional dance partner Camilla Dallerup.

Philips gave a mixed review to the couple's Paso Doble, saying: "At times it was not very pleasant like a Spanish omelette, at other times it was like a fine Rioja".

The duo's Tango was more warmly received, with Bruno Tonioli praising Jones's dedication.

"Moody, dangerous, the prince of darkness you were tonight," he said. "You worked well with Camilla. You did a great job on it."

Dixon, who was one-third of R&B group Misteeq, was the judges' favourite in the semi-final, scoring 76 out of a possible 80. Di Angelo was just behind, with 75 points.

In the final, each contestant will have to perform their highest scoring ballroom and Latin dances of the series, a joint Viennese waltz, a show dance, and the "judges' choice" - a dance set to a piece of music chosen by the four judges.

The Spice Girls are also due to appear on the show - having had to pull out of this week's recording after Emma Bunton sprained her ankle.

Last year's competition was won by cricketer Mark Ramprakash.
