A man has been injured in a shooting on a Teesside street which police are treating as attempted murder.

The 30-year-old was on Bridge End Close in Grange Town when he was approached by two men wearing balaclavas and riding a trial bike.

Two shots were fired from a shotgun, hitting him in the buttocks. He is being treated in hospital for injuries described as non-life threatening.

Police believe it was not a random attack but targeted to the victim.

Witnesses are being sought to the incident, which happened on Friday afternoon.

A police spokeswoman said: "This was a cowardly attack at a time when children were leaving school.

"Although the injuries sustained were not life-threatening, it could have been a lot worse, even resulting in loss of life."
