Cyanide fall man remains critical

A worker who fell into a vat of diluted potassium cyanide in Greater Manchester remains in a critical condition in hospital.

Two colleagues at metal plating specialists Karas Industries Ltd, in Leigh, pulled the 62-year-old man from the vat early on Thursday morning.

Firefighters called to the scene hosed him down to decontaminate him before he was rushed to hospital.

Cyanide can cause fatal cardiac arrests if ingested. An inquiry is under way.
