Crews were called out at 0300 GMT. One resident, who did not want to be named, said she was woken by her neighbour at 0300 GMT.
"I couldn't get out last night, too strong smoke," she said.
"I opened the door, I tried to go out but I couldn't see. I closed the door and went out onto the balcony. The smell was terrible."
