(1 day later)
Sussex skipper Chris Adams could be set to join Yorkshire in a shock move. Sussex have revealed that captain Chris Adams has asked to be released from his contract, with Yorkshire keen to sign the veteran batsman.
The 36-year-old is believed to have been offered a long-term deal combining captaincy and managerial duties. Adams is thought to have been offered a long-term deal at Headingley combining captaincy and managerial duties.
County champions Sussex have responded by offering the batsman more money and a year's extension to his deal, which runs out at the end of next season. And a Sussex statement read: "With great regret we confirm that Chris has asked to be released from his contract.
"The ball is in his court. We've expressed a desire to bring him to Headingley," Tykes chief executive Stewart Regan told BBC Sport. "We will consider granting his wish as we recognise the wonderful opportunity he has of going into management."
"We have been in discussions with Chris about how he can develop as an individual.
"He's 36 and is looking at where he goes after his playing career finishes."

A statement from the club read: "We have made another offer for a year's extension taking him to the end of the 2008 season within an enhancement on the terms of his current contract. And on Thursday, Tykes chief executive Stewart Regan told BBC Sport: "The ball is in his court. We've expressed a desire to bring him to Headingley.
"We have also offered him an option to play on further by negotiation. "We have been in discussions with Chris about how he can develop as an individual.
"We are aware that he has a strong desire to move into cricket management in the future and at the moment it is unfortunate that Sussex does not have a vacancy in this area. "He's 36 and is looking at where he goes after his playing career finishes."
"Chris Adams is a huge part of our club's success in the last few years both on and off the field and he is still contracted to play for us for another season, and we hope beyond." Following news of Yorkshire's interest, county champions Sussex responded by offering the 36-year-old more money and a year's extension to his deal.
Yorkshire, who narrowly avoided relegation, need a new skipper after Craig White quit at the end of last season. But it appears to have held little sway after Adams' request to leave the club.
He could now be set to take over as Tykes skipper next season following Craig White's decision to quit at the end of last season.
