http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/rss/-/1/hi/world/americas/7142578.stm Version 0 of 1. Police in Vancouver, Canada, say they have broken up an international drugs ring that was smuggling huge amounts of cocaine, ecstasy and other drugs. The ring was based in Vancouver and supplied drugs to six other countries, police officials said. More than 100 people have been arrested in several countries and thousands of kilograms of drugs have been seized. Police in the US, Japan, China, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand and India were also involved in the operation. Vancouver police said they had arrested the alleged head of the ring, a 40-year-old Canadian citizen named Yong Long Ye. The group was allegedly producing and distributing a variety of illicit drugs including cocaine, ecstasy, heroin, methamphetamine and marijuana, authorities said. Australian police said the ring communicated in code to smuggle the drugs from where they were made in Canada, through China to Australia where the price was higher. |
