Woman and children in house fire Neighbour woken by fire screams

A woman and six children were taken to hospital after a suspected arson attack at their home in Leeds. A neighbour has described how he was woken by the screams of a woman trapped in a burning house with five children.
Firefighters were called to the property on St Hilda's Crescent in the Cross Green area early on Wednesday. Ann Roberts' cries for help were heard by neighbour Simon Keith when the fire, believed to be arson, engulfed her house on St Hilda's Crescent in Leeds.
They were taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation. Two neighbours who attempted to rescue them were treated at the scene. Mr Keith said: "I looked out and saw Ann screaming in her bedroom. I ran outside and just battered the door in."
Police said the incident was being treated as suspicious and investigations were under way. He and Ms Roberts' son Nathan helped lead the woman and children to safety early on Wednesday.
