The 16th Century Highland castle repossessed from former Rangers owner Craig Whyte has been sold.

Castle Grant, which sits in 35 acres (14ha) of land near Grantown on Spey, was put on the market earlier this year with a price of more than £1m.

Mr Whyte and his wife bought Castle Grant eight years ago.

However, amid the businessman's turbulent financial affairs, the couple split and the Bank of Scotland repossessed the castle.

The action came after he defaulted on his £7,000-a-month mortgage payments.

The castle's new owners are believed to be from abroad.
