Heavy fog is causing ‘moderate to high’ delays to flights at Heathrow, Gatwick and London City airports this morning, European air traffic controllers said.

Thick fog over London and the south east is causing low visibility and has led to a number of flight delays in the UK .

The adverse weather is also causing delays over Europe with airports in Lisbon, Portugal, Amsterdam and Zurich also affected.

The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for fog this morning.

It said: "Widespread fog is affecting much of East Anglia, south east England and the East Midlands this morning with visibility reduced to 100 metres or less in places.

"The public should be aware that this will lead to difficult travelling conditions during this morning's busy period. The fog should gradually lift and disperse during the morning.
