Version 0 of 1.

A concert in memory of the late MP and Welsh Assembly Member Peter Law is to be held in aid of a hospice that cared for him after he had a brain tumour.

Choirs will perform in a concert that is billed as remembering "Peter Law the man, not the politician."

Members of the public are invited to attend, along with politicians, at the event for the Hospice of the Valleys in Ebbw Vale Leisure Centre on Saturday.

Mr Law's widow Trish, who succeeded him as Blaenau Gwent AM, will also attend.

More than 600 people are expected at the concert for Mr Law, who represented Blaenau Gwent in both the House of Commons and the Senedd in Cardiff Bay, and who died in April 2006.

Carol singing

It has been organised by the hospice, which is based in Tredegar, and the local Rotary Club, of which Mr Law was a member.

The concert will involve four massed choirs from Blaenau Gwent and will conclude with communal carol singing.

Peter Law's widow Trish won his assembly seat after his death

Helen Morgan, fundraising manager for the hospice, said: "He was a Rotarian and the club came up with the idea to have a concert and we took it on.

"There hadn't been a concert for him and we want it to be a memorial of Peter Law the man, not politician."

Mr Law, the independent MP and AM for Blaenau Gwent, died in April 2006 aged 58 after suffering from a brain tumour.

He had controversially left the Labour Party in protest at its policy of all-women candidates' shortlists and overturned its 19,000 majority at the 2005 general election.

He was first diagnosed with a brain tumour during the election campaign.

His widow, Trish, went on to fight for and win his Blaenau Gwent assembly seat as an independent in the by-election which followed her husband's death.

The Hospice of the Valleys provides care for patients who are suffering life-threatening illnesses.

The concert is at the Ebbw Vale Leisure Centre at 1900 GMT on Saturday. Tickets are available on the door.
