Double murder inquiry continues Double shop murders 'not racist'
(about 2 hours later)
A murder investigation is continuing after the discovery of two bodies in a flat above a shop. Police have said the murders of two Asian men in a flat above a shop were not racially motivated.
Shawbury Fish Bar and the adjoining Indian takeaway on Drayton Road in Shawbury, near Shrewsbury, in Shropshire have been cordoned off. The men, thought to be in their 20s, were found above a fish and chip shop on Drayton Road in Shawbury in Shropshire on Friday.
The bodies, which were found on Friday, have not yet been identified but it is thought three Asian men lived there. Post-mortem examinations are being carried out but West Mercia Police said the pair suffered severe injuries.
A white tent has been erected at the rear of the buildings while forensic examinations continue. The chip shop and adjoining Indian takeaway remain sealed off and an incident room has been set up.
Det Ch Insp Dave Morgan is asking anyone with information to contact West Mercia Police. Anyone with information is urged to contact police but officers are pursuing several "promising" lines of inquiry, the spokesman added.
The coroner for mid and north Shropshire has been informed and post-mortem examinations are to be held later by Home Office pathologist Dr Eddie Tapp. More than 40 police officers are involved in the case.
"In particular, we are asking people to contact us if they saw or heard anything suspicious on Thursday night or yesterday morning at or near the scene which might possibly be connected to the incident.
"We can assure the local community that we are doing everything possible to trace the person or people responsible for this crime.
"Several of West Mercia's most senior officers are overseeing the inquiry, including Assistant Chief Constable Simon Chesterman and major crimes co-ordinator Detective Superintendent Michael Brunger, both of whom are in Shropshire today.
"The investigation team has been working overnight and are actively following up a number of promising lines of inquiry.
"We are keeping an open mind but I would like to emphasise that there is nothing at this stage to suggest this is a racist crime."
