Madonna 'surprised at baby row' Madonna 'disappointed at media'
(about 4 hours later)
Madonna has reportedly said she was surprised by the furore surrounding her attempted adoption of a Malawian baby in her first interview on the subject. Madonna says she is "disappointed" by media coverage of her bid to adopt a Malawian baby, saying it discourages other people from doing the same.
She blamed the media for the controversy and said she had acted lawfully, audience members at Oprah Winfrey's chat show said afterwards. "The media is doing a great disservice to all the orphans of Africa by turning it into such a negative thing," she said on Oprah Winfrey's chat show.
The interview is to be shown on US television later. She added that her children had "embraced" the one-year-old's arrival.

"She said she met with the father, she looked him in the eye," Ms Lewis said.
The singer said she had "oral and written approval and now the press have gotten to" Yohane Banda.
