Two British medicine students from Newcastle University have been killed in Malaysia, the university has said. Two British medical students have been stabbed to death in Malaysia, local police have said.
Neil Dalton and Aidan Brunger, both 22, had been "tragically killed" and the news was a "huge shock", the university's vice-chancellor said. Neil Dalton and Aidan Brunger, both in their 20s, were killed at about 04:15 local time on Wednesday, they said. Four men have been arrested.
He said the pair had been on a six-week work placement at a hospital in Kuching, Borneo, when they died. The pair were students at Newcastle University and the vice-chancellor said the news was a "huge shock".
The Foreign Office said it was helping their families, but no further details have been released about how they died. He said they had been on a six-week work placement at a hospital in Kuching, on the island of Borneo.
The Foreign Office said it was aware of the deaths of two Britons and was "providing consular assistance to their families at this difficult time".
