Hong Kong's first budget airline, Oasis, has taken off on its inaugural flight to London. The inaugural flight of Hong Kong's first budget airline, Oasis, has failed to make it off the ground.
Unusually for a low-cost carrier, it offers food and business class and concentrates on long-haul flights. The flight to London Gatwick was meant to leave at 1300 local time (0500 GMT), but was delayed after Russia held back its right to overfly Russian territory.
The first flight - to Gatwick airport - took off at 1300 local time (0500 GMT) and was fully booked. The fully-booked flight was forced to wait at Hong Kong's airport.
Seats in economy class cost from $200 (£112) including tax while business class is cheaper than economy on established airlines. Unlike many low-cost carriers it offers food and intends to concentrate on long-haul routes - assuming it gets over the bumpy start.
