Swansea City have confirmed the signing of the Ecuador World Cup winger Jefferson Montero from Mexican club Morelia.

The 24-year-old, who has signed a four-year deal, becomes the club’s sixth summer signing following the additions of Bafétimbi Gomis, Marvin Emnes, Stephen Kingsley, Lukasz Fabianski and Gylfi Sigurdsson, who signed on Wednesday.

Montero, signed for an undisclosed fee believed to be around £4m, started all three of Ecuador’s World Cup group games in Brazil, and has earned 43 caps since making his international debut in 2007.

The former Villarreal winger can operate on either flank and looks set to replace the departing Pablo Hernández.

The news follows another departure at the Liberty Stadium after Alejandro Pozuelo joined the Spanish Primera Division side Rayo Vallecano on a permanent deal. Ben Davies and Michel Vorm have also gone as part of the Sigurdsson deal with Tottenham, while striker Michu joined Napoli on loan last week.
