Man is rescued from water at Bloody Bridge, Newcastle

A 19-year-old man is in a stable condition in hospital after falling into water at Bloody Bridge near Newcastle, County Down.

It happened shortly before 03:00 BST on Sunday.

He was brought to Daisy Hill Hospital by the Irish coastguard helicopter. The local coastguard and fire service were also involved in the rescue.

The man is being transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.
