Neighbours saw a man running from the mid-terrace property "screaming and shouting".
One woman, who did not want to be named, said she saw the man outside the house crying and surrounded by police.
"I spoke to my neighbours and they said they had seen him run out of the house screaming and shouting and asking people to call the police.
"I can't believe this has happened on my doorstep, it has really shaken me."
The woman said that a man in his mid-20s lived alone at the property, which remains cordoned off and under police guard.
