DVA move: Northern Ireland motor tax offices close for good

Motorists will no longer be able to tax their vehicles at Driver and Vehicle Agency buildings in Northern Ireland as the offices close for good on Thursday.

From 21 July, motorists who need to tax or register their vehicles must do so either online or at a post office.

DVA offices in Northern Ireland are due to shut later as the service is being centralised in Wales.

More than 300 DVA jobs have been lost, mainly in Coleraine, County Londonderry.

From Monday 21 July, all UK-wide vehicle licensing will be delivered by the Driver Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) in Swansea.

The decision to centralise services led to protests when it was announced by the government in March.

The DVA has issued advice to Northern Ireland motorists who need to tax their vehicles during the transition period.

"Specifically, if people want to tax a car on Friday 18 July, the handover period of data to Swansea, they will need to go to the Post Office," a DVA statement said.
