A Swansea law student who beat and repeatedly raped a woman left stranded in the city centre on Black Friday has been jailed for 18 years.

Jagdip Brar, 21, spotted his victim walking alone in the city on the last Friday before Christmas last year.

Brar offered her a lift home when she said she was stranded after a row with a friend, but he drove her to a remote area of the A465 and attacked her.

He denied the attack but was convicted by jurors at Swansea Crown Court.

The prosecution said the student had used a steel bracelet, a Sikh Kara, as a makeshift weapon and his victim thought she would be killed.

Brar punched her repeatedly, breaking her nose and raped her several times.

He then left her at the side of the road, badly injured, with just her leggings and a coat.

The court was told that when police examined his mobile phone, they found he had been searching the internet for pornographic videos that involved rape.

He had denied three charges of rape, one of assault and inflicting grievous bodily harm.

The jury rejected his claim that they had consensual sex and he was convicted of all the offences.
