Football transfer rumours: Troy Deeney set to spark off wild merry-go-round? Football transfer rumours: Troy Deeney set to spark off wild merry-go-round?

For all that the transfer market dance is a merry one, it’s only really hot to trot when somebody, somewhere down the line, starts off a Chain Of Events. And the man born for this purpose – the purpose of feeding a summer’s supply of live meat to hungry yellow tickers everywhere – is apparently Watford’s Troy Deeney. For all that the transfer market dance is a merry one, it’s only really hot to trot when somebody, somewhere down the line, starts off a Chain Of Events. Should the anointed one be permitted a £6m move to Swansea, Wilfried Bony, whose World Cup did him little harm, will be free to move to Liverpool or Tottenham. If he made it to Anfield (and quite why Brendan Rodgers would require both Bony and Rickie Lambert is another question), then Bony would most likely be teaming up with Divock Origi and Lazar Markovic who, respectively, have had and are about to undergo medicals at Melwood. There could even be another deal with Rodgers’ former employers, as Ben Davies is the latest player linked with occupying Liverpool’s long-term vacancy at left-back.Should the anointed one be permitted a £6m move to Swansea, Wilfried Bony, whose World Cup did him little harm, will be free to move to Liverpool or Tottenham. Such an influx would almost certainly hurry the Luis Suárez story along a little more quickly, and who wouldn’t be keen on that?Such an influx would almost certainly hurry the Luis Suárez story along a little more quickly, and who wouldn’t be keen on that?
If Alexis Sánchez had done the decent thing then that story would have been finished by now, but he seems certain to join Arsenal and the Gunners aren’t going to stop there. They have their eyes on Colombian goalkeeper David Ospina as the next man to play five games during Wojciech Szczesny’s mid-season dip; Arsène Wenger is tempted to buy British between the posts, but Nice keeper Ospina will, as is the way of things now, be a sight cheaper than Championship targets David Marshall and Alex McCarthy. There is more. Now that Mathieu Debuchy looks North London-bound, Newcastle are in urgent need of a new Frenchman. Luckily Alan Pardew has just the man: Montpellier’s Rémy Cabella, a non-playing member of Didier Deschamps’ World Cup squad, is back in their sights after a thwarted bid in the winter. Once that vacancy is filled, Pardew will set about signing a new right-back – and, as long as Wednesday night’s clash of heads with Marcos Rojo didn’t give birth to too much clarity, Holland and Feyenoord defender Daryl Janmaat could well be that man. There is more. Holland’s defeat gives Louis van Gaal carte blanche to get Manchester United’s regeneration done and dusted nice and early, and he’s apparently keen on Wolfsburg and Switzerland left-back Ricardo Rodríguez in what you rather suspect is a leftover piece of agent talk from before their deal for Luke Shaw.Holland’s defeat gives Louis van Gaal carte blanche to get Manchester United’s regeneration done and dusted nice and early, and he’s apparently keen on Wolfsburg and Switzerland left-back Ricardo Rodríguez in what you rather suspect is a leftover piece of agent talk from before their deal for Luke Shaw.
One that won’t go through? A report in Bosnia suggests that midfield revelation Muhamed Besic will no longer be joining Swansea. Perhaps that would free up a little more cash to seal the Deeney deal and really get this party started. One that won’t go through?
