The former Arsenal striker Eduardo da Silva is close to joining Flamengo, according to reports in Brazil. The 31-year-old was recently released by Shakhtar Donetsk and is now apparently ready to move back to the country of his birth. Eduardo, who was born in Rio, is a Croatia international and has been capped 64 times. The player joined Arsenal from Dynamo Zagreb for £7.5m in 2007 and scored 22 times for the London club. A horrific leg break at Birmingham in February 2008 severely curtailed his opportunities to shine for Arsène Wenger’s side and he eventually left in 2010. Eduardo, who was part of the Croatia squad that competed at the World Cup in Brazil, coming on as a substitute in their final group match against Cameroon, had attracted interest from Stoke, after becoming a free agent. |
