Nick Clegg doesn't want his children to go into politics
Version 0 of 1. They say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree – but that won't be the case with the Clegg family. In an interview published today, deputy prime minister Nick Clegg has said he would do "everything to try and discourage" his children from following in his footsteps by going into politics. He told the Radio Times magazine: “I’m like any parent. The first, most visceral instinct you have as a parent is you want to protect your children, and politics is a very rough business you know. It’s absolutely not for the faint-hearted or the thin-skinned, so I wouldn’t likely recommend to my children to go into politics.” Clegg has admitted his experience as deputy prime minister has been far from pretty. In 2010, he told Esquire magazine people had spat at him in the street and put dog mess through his letterbox. While Clegg may not want the same career for his children, it's not uncommon for kids to follow in their parents' footsteps. Did you choose to do the same thing as your parents? Would you encourage your children to pursue the same career as you? Share your thoughts in the comments below. |
