A passenger jet co-pilot arrested at Heathrow Airport on suspicion of being over the alcohol limit will face no charges, Virgin Atlantic says.

The results of a blood test found he was under the legal limit for aviation workers, the company added.

The 42-year-old first officer was arrested on October 28, as his plane was about to take off.

The 266 passengers on the Miami-bound flight were delayed while a replacement flight deck crew was found.

In a statement, Virgin Atlantic said: "The results showed that the pilot, who was a relief pilot on flight VS5 between London Heathrow and Miami, was under the legal alcohol limit for aviation workers as set out in the Railways and Transport Safety Act 2003 and therefore, as no offence was committed, no charges will be brought.

"The pilot is now expected to resume his duties at the airline."

Following his arrest, police had released the pilot on bail but he was suspended from duty pending the police investigation, the airline said.
