A squad of police officers has been set up to investigate the trouble in Edinburgh city centre following the recent derby game.

Police made 14 arrests in the city centre in the hours following the 2-2 draw between Hibernian and Heart of Midlothian on Sunday 15 October.

Violence erupted across the city centre at Fountainpark and Lothian Road.

One of the worst incidents was outside the Uluru bar in Lothian Road which had its front window smashed.

In addition, a number of items of street furniture were thrown about as more than 30 people took part in the disorder.

Now a dedicated team of officers will be analysing CCTV footage to identify those responsible.

Chief Inspector Willie Wills, of Lothian and Borders Police, is leading the investigation.

He said: "The scenes of violence that occurred in Edinburgh city centre on that Sunday will not be tolerated.

"We made a number of arrests that evening but are now looking to extend the net and identify other people who were also involved.

"The network of CCTV cameras situated across the capital will have a pivotal role in the identification and detection of those involved in incidents of disorder at the weekend.

"The cameras are a significant resource in making Edinburgh a safer city and clearly illustrate the excellent working relationship that has been forged with the City of Edinburgh Council's CCTV monitoring unit."

The police have said that anyone identified will be arrested and faces the possibility of jail, special bail conditions and football banning orders.
