Gaucho song festivals held in Brazil's southern most state of Rio Grande do Sul are colourful spectacles.

They are one of many activities that are part of a larger movement started to preserve and celebrate the culture and traditions of the Brazilian gauchos - the cowboys of the South American pampas.

Reporter Gwendolen von Einsiedel visited one such festival - and saw what the gaucho culture means to the people of modern southern Brazil.
