Staff shortage causes Gatwick Airport baggage delay
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-sussex-28078395 Version 0 of 1. Passengers at Gatwick Airport have faced delays of up to 90 minutes to reclaim their baggage. The airport has apologised blaming a shortage of staff at Swissport, which is one of the three baggage handling companies working at Gatwick. It said the company's licence required it to deliver bags from each flight "within 55 minutes". For passengers with longer waits the airport offered to send their bags on to them. A spokeswoman for the airport said: "Gatwick would like to apologise for the longer than usual wait for bags some passengers have experienced this weekend. "We are working closely with the ground handling teams at Gatwick, who are employed directly by our airlines, to improve delivery speed and service levels." No one at Swissport was immediately available for comment. |
